The Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, declared a robust new anti-sacrilege law on Saturday to ensure strict punishment for those accused of 'beadbi' (sacrilege). He emphasized that claims of mental instability will no longer act as a shield for offenders.

During a 'Samagam' program in Rakhra, Patiala, Mann criticized previous administrations for upholding weak laws due to a lack of political will, pointing fingers at the BJP, Congress, and Akali Dal for their involvement in corrupt practices. He affirmed that such weak provisions allowed offenders to exploit loopholes, causing profound distress across Punjab.

Highlighting the AAP government's determination, Mann assured that the new law, enacted under his leadership, aims to close all loopholes and introduce severe penalties. The Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Bill, 2026, includes provisions like life imprisonment for sacrilege acts, reflecting a strong legislative stance against such offenses.
