Alex Saab's Arrest Sparks Renewed U.S.-Venezuela Collaboration
Alex Saab, a Colombian-Venezuelan businessman, was deported to the U.S., marking heightened cooperation between U.S. and Venezuelan law enforcement. Saab, an ally of former President Nicolas Maduro, might provide information against Maduro, who faces conspiracy charges. Saab was previously detained in Cape Verde on bribery charges.
Venezuelan official Alex Saab, a Colombian-Venezuelan businessman and close confidant of former President Nicolas Maduro, has been deported to the United States, according to Venezuela's migration agency, SAIME.
Saab was apprehended in Caracas last February during a coordinated operation between U.S. and Venezuelan authorities. This development points to significant cooperation under acting President Delcy Rodriguez, highlighting an intensified crackdown on corruption.
Saab's move to the U.S. could bolster their criminal proceedings against Maduro, as sources suggest he might share crucial insights. Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, currently face severe charges in New York, which they deny.
