West Bengal's political landscape teetered on the brink of unrest as Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari took charge by meeting senior officers of Kolkata Police’s South East Division. The meeting, held on Monday, aimed to evaluate the turbulent law and order situation, especially after violent incidents erupted at Park Circus, characterized by stone pelting and barricades.
The commotion began on Sunday, reportedly during a protest against an alleged anti-encroachment drive in the Tiljala area. The agitation led to injuries among police personnel as demonstrators resourced stones and bricks, targeting the deployed security forces. This incident was particularly marked in the minority-dominated region, escalating tension in the vicinity.
In response, on Monday, a significant police contingent was deployed to Park Circus with a mission to quell any potential disturbances and maintain peace. Several protesters were detained following the clashes, with law enforcement keen on avoiding further flare-ups in this vulnerable and volatile area.
