Nationwide Bank Strikes Loom: SBI Staff Demand Fair Treatment
The All India State Bank of India Staff Federation demonstrated for a 16-point demand list, highlighting recruitment issues and insurance mis-selling. Over 100 employees protested, with plans for a nationwide strike on May 25-26. The union claims ineffective dispute resolution and mis-selling driven by business pressures.
The All India State Bank of India Staff Federation staged a significant protest on Monday, demanding the implementation of a 16-point charter aimed at addressing recruitment needs and stopping the mis-selling of insurance products. The demonstration took place in front of a crucial administrative office, gathering more than 100 participating employees.
Union leaders from the federation's Kolkata Circle unit fervently addressed the crowd, detailing the reasoning behind their demands while urging the workforce to prepare for larger movements if necessary. The federation has called for a two-day nationwide strike within the State Bank of India on May 25 and 26 as part of this initiative.
The federation's grievances, as outlined in their strike notice, include dissatisfaction with current bilateral resolution mechanisms and persistent mis-selling of insurance products. This, they argue, results from unrealistic business pressures. Their agitation activities have included badge-wearing protests, lunchtime demonstrations, social media activism, and they plan future actions such as candle marches.
