The West Bengal government has sanctioned the prosecution of the former principal of R G Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, over financial irregularities. An order from the Department of Health and Family Welfare highlighted the governor's approval for the prosecution under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The case involves alleged irregularities in procurement at the college during Ghosh's tenure. The Calcutta High Court had earlier ordered a probe following a plea, after which the CBI's Anti-Corruption Branch took over the investigation from the local police. A regular case was registered against Ghosh and multiple entities for criminal conspiracy, cheating, and corruption.

Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate initiated a money laundering probe, registering an ECIR. A senior official stated that the sanction was granted after thoroughly reviewing the case materials and deemed necessary for taking the prosecution forward. Ghosh's connection to alleged corruption has been under scrutiny since last year.
