The National Human Rights Commission has initiated an investigation into a reported incident of a deadly fire at a private hospital in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The unfortunate event reportedly led to the fatality of one patient, the commission announced.

In response to the incident, the commission has issued notices to Uttarakhand's Chief Secretary and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun. They are required to submit a comprehensive report on the fire within a two-week timeframe. Media reports from May 21 indicate that an air conditioner short circuit on May 20 caused an explosion that resulted in the fire.

Fourteen patients were evacuated from the hospital and transferred for medical treatment nearby. Tragically, one female patient did not survive, and ten others were injured. Three police officers involved in the rescue also fell ill and required hospitalization. The NHRC remarked that these events could indicate a serious breach of human rights if verified.
