Canada's relations with India are on a fast track to recovery, thanks to Prime Minister Mark Carney's recent visit to India, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced. This significant diplomatic step aims to reset ties that were strained after the controversial episode involving a Sikh activist's death in Canada.

During his visit, Carney met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, resulting in several agreements. These include a 2.6 billion Canadian dollar deal for uranium supply to India, marking the first Canadian Prime Minister's visit to India in eight years, reshaping bilateral perceptions and agendas.

Amid ongoing trade discussions since 2010, Goyal asserts India and Canada are eager to finalize a free-trade agreement by year-end, targeting a trade volume of USD 50 billion by 2030. These efforts signify a strategic pivot to diversify economic partnerships beyond the United States.
