Itanagar Bans Mithun Slaughter, Enforces Strict Penalties

Itanagar authorities have prohibited the commercial slaughter of Mithuns, imposing a Rs 20,000 fine for violations, and ordered the removal of stalls alongside NH-415 to alleviate public health risks and traffic congestion.

Authorities in the Itanagar Capital Region have prohibited the commercial slaughter of Mithuns, warning that violators will face financial penalties. The move was announced by Toko Babu, the Deputy Commissioner, referencing regulations under the Agricultural Produce Marketing and Essential Commodities Acts.

Toko Babu has declared that a Rs 20,000 fine will be enforced on those found engaging in illegal Mithun slaughter. Additionally, the vice-chairperson of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee has been assigned to oversee compliance efforts. Law enforcement resources will be allocated as necessary to support these measures. In a separate directive, the Itanagar Municipal Corporation has mandated the removal of meat, fruit, and vegetable vendors along NH-415 due to concerns over traffic and public health within a ten-day timeframe.
