A tense atmosphere prevailed outside Pinarayi Vijayan's rented residence on Wednesday when CPI(M) supporters allegedly attacked security forces with helmets, bottles, and stones. This occurred amid an ongoing raid by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) within the premises at Bakery Junction.
Vijayan, along with his family, remained inside throughout the searches, which stemmed from alleged corruption in a deal involving his daughter and Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd. Demonstrators attempted to storm the gates, voicing their discontent with the ED and the central government.
The situation was eventually defused after intervention by CPI(M) leaders, prompting the demonstrators to retreat. ED officials conducted simultaneous searches at multiple locations in Kerala, including Vijayan’s family home, as part of their investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The operations follow the Kerala High Court’s rejection of a plea by CMRL to terminate the ED inquiry, highlighting allegations of financial misconduct between 2018 and 2019, where Rs 1.72 crore was reportedly transferred to Exalogic Solutions without services rendered.
