The Government of India has intensified preparations for the upcoming NEET-UG re-examination, with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chairing a high-level review meeting to assess examination readiness, strengthen security mechanisms, and ensure smooth conduct across the country.

The meeting was held in the presence of Dr K. Radhakrishnan, former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who currently heads the High Powered Steering Committee overseeing implementation of reforms and recommendations related to the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The review comes amid continued efforts by the Government to restore confidence in national entrance examinations through tighter monitoring, improved security systems, and enhanced administrative preparedness.

Senior Officials Review Examination Preparedness

The meeting was attended by:

  • Secretary, Higher Education

  • Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA)

  • Senior officials from the Ministry of Education

  • NTA representatives

Officials reviewed the preparedness for the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for:

  • 21 June 2026

The examination will be conducted at:

  • More than 5,400 examination centres

  • Across 550 cities nationwide

The scale of the exercise makes it one of the largest entrance examination operations in the country.

NTA Briefs Government on Enhanced Security Measures

During the meeting, the Director General of NTA presented details of additional security and surveillance measures being implemented to strengthen examination integrity.

According to officials, the preparations include:

  • Enhanced surveillance systems

  • Upgraded monitoring mechanisms

  • Expanded security protocols

  • Improved coordination with local authorities

  • Strengthened operational oversight

The review also involved assessment of existing security arrangements and plans for further augmentation where necessary.

Dr K. Radhakrishnan Monitoring NTA Reforms

Dr K. Radhakrishnan, who attended the review meeting, is currently heading the High Powered Steering Committee tasked with monitoring implementation of reforms related to the National Testing Agency.

The committee was constituted to:

  • Improve examination systems

  • Modernise testing mechanisms

  • Reinforce public confidence in national examinations

His presence at the review highlights the Government's continued focus on structural reforms within the NTA framework.

NEET-UG Remains India's Largest Medical Entrance Examination

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) serves as the primary entrance examination for undergraduate medical education admissions in India.

The examination determines admission into:

  • MBBS programmes

  • BDS courses

  • AYUSH programmes

  • Other undergraduate medical courses

across government and private institutions nationwide.

Given the enormous number of candidates appearing annually, NEET-UG is regarded as one of the most sensitive and high-stakes examinations conducted in India.
