The Austrian court is poised to deliver its decision regarding the case of Beran A., who has confessed to scheming an assault on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna almost two years back. The scheme was intercepted, leading to the cancellation of three scheduled performances by the singer in August 2024.
Beran A., a 21-year-old from Austria, stands accused of terrorist acts and membership in a terrorist network. His legal representation confirmed his guilty plea concerning the concert plot during the trial's commencement last month. He now risks a prison sentence of up to two decades.
Reportedly, Beran A. intended to target concertgoers with sharp weapons or improvised explosives outside the Ernst Happel Stadium. The trial also involves Arda K., another individual whose full identity remains undisclosed, and a third conspirator detained in Saudi Arabia. They allegedly conspired to execute simultaneous assaults during Ramadan 2024 across Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and the UAE in ISIS's name.
While Beran A. faces charges specifically tied to the concert attack plan, he has denied involvement in the broader simultaneous attack plot. The court's decision could be announced on Thursday after the completion of expert testimonies and concluding statements.
