Supreme Court Mandates Timely Implementation of Trauma Care Systems Nationwide

The Supreme Court of India has directed states and Union Territories to implement an emergency helpline and improve trauma care systems within three months, emphasizing the right to trauma care as essential to the right to life under the Constitution.

The Indian Supreme Court emphasized the need for immediate action in enhancing trauma care systems, identifying it as vital to the constitutional right to life. All states and Union Territories have been ordered to activate emergency helpline '112' and solidify a good samaritan grievance redressal framework within a three-month timeframe.

Justices Maheshwari and Chandurkar stressed that timely trauma intervention is crucial. In addressing existing obstacles, the Court called for systemic reforms, including a comprehensive trauma care infrastructure, public awareness drives, and the establishment of state trauma registries. Further directives include adopting standard ambulance protocols, GPS tracking, and structured audits.
