Anbumani Ramadoss, a leader of the Pattali Makkal Katchi, has called on the Tamil Nadu government to undertake a caste-based population survey urgently. He described this as a 'social justice survey' aimed at preserving social equality within the state.
Ramadoss emphasized that there are no legal or logistical hurdles preventing Tamil Nadu from launching this survey. Drawing comparisons with Karnataka's 2015 comprehensive caste survey, he noted it involved a financial commitment of Rs 635 crore and covered education, economic status, and employment statistics for millions.
He suggested Tamil Nadu could replicate this effort with an estimated budget of Rs 700 crore, which is feasible given the state's strong fiscal position. He also criticized the central government's limited approach, which only extends to collecting OBC caste data, lacking in-depth insights into broader social issues.
