The Delhi High Court has ordered a review of the decision to block Cockroach Janta Party's social media account on platform X. While the court denied immediate unblocking, it mandated that a review committee assess the case under IT Rules, with a decision required by July 7.
The court allowed CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke to present his case virtually to the committee. The committee has the authority to unblock the account if it finds the suspension to be unjustified. The court also sought responses from Meta-owned X and the Central government, emphasizing the need for careful examination of all aspects before the next hearing.
Representing Dipke, lawyer Akhil Sibal argued that the CJP's content was satirical and suggested blocking individual tweets if deemed objectionable, rather than the entire account. The court noted the nascent legal landscape regarding social media blocking and advised against hasty action.
CJP, established amid controversy over remarks by the Chief Justice of India, emphasizes youth-driven activism. It has gained attention with its large following and unique protest symbolism. Recently, it campaigned for the resignation of the Union Education Minister concerning perceived failures in the education sector.
