The Delhi High Court has instructed a review committee to assess the blockade of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on X, formerly known as Twitter, and make a decision by July 7. The court, however, refrained from ordering an immediate unblocking of the digital satire outfit's account.
Justice Purushaindra Kaurav allowed Abhijeet Dipke, the CJP's founder, to participate virtually in the committee proceedings. If the committee finds the blocking unfair, it could potentially reverse the decision. The judge has also sought responses from the central authorities and X to Dipke's legal challenge.
During hearings, senior advocate Akhil Sibal, representing Dipke, emphasized the account's satirical nature and argued for blocking only the specific tweets deemed objectionable, rather than the entire account. Meanwhile, the Judge noted the nascent stage of laws governing digital content blocking as the petition proceeds.
The CJP recently resurfaced under a new identity, garnering substantial online support. The group is committed to amplifying youth issues and holding authorities accountable, having launched campaigns addressing educational shortcomings.
