A Sudanese humanitarian group has claimed that a paramilitary force attacked unprotected villages, resulting in 27 civilian deaths during Eid al-Adha. The Sudan Doctors Network accused the Rapid Support Forces and said civilians, including the elderly, were targeted in the remote al-Murrah area in North Kordofan, worsening the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The conflict in Sudan, which escalated into full-scale war in April 2023, has made the Kordofan region a hotspot. The Rapid Support Forces, controlling parts of Darfur and Kordofan, have clashed with government forces. The incident, during a major Muslim celebration, adds a grim note to the existing turmoil.
The humanitarian organization highlighted the attack as a severe breach of international law. The conflict has devastated the country, resulting in widespread deaths, displacement, and a dire need for relief. Access to affected areas remains challenging, hampering accurate assessments and humanitarian efforts.
