A bridge under construction over the Betwa river in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district collapsed due to a storm. The incident, which occurred around 3 am, claimed the lives of six labourers and injured three others. The workers, engaged in the construction, were sleeping when the slab they were on gave way.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and instructed the local administration to provide adequate medical aid to the injured. Officials, including the District Magistrate Abhishek Goyal, visited the site to oversee rescue operations spearheaded by SDRF teams.
Goyal noted that a private firm handled the project over the past two years and safety measures were instituted for labourers. Warnings regarding inclement weather had been issued, with local announcements made to alert those in the vicinity.
The chief minister announced compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured, while an investigation to identify those responsible is underway, with promises of stringent actions upon completion.
