Nepal Celebrates Five Exceptional Contributors to Himalayan Efforts
Nepal honored five individuals for their significant contributions to the Himalayan region through a ceremony that underscored the pressing need to address climate change on the 73rd International Everest Day.

During a ceremony held in Kathmandu, Nepal recognized five individuals for their exceptional contributions to the preservation and study of the Himalayas amidst growing concerns over climate change. This event coincided with the 73rd International Everest Day, commemorating the historic ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary in 1953.
The Nepal Tourism Board organized the event where Pasang Dawa Sherpa was awarded the International Everest Award for his 31 successful ascents, receiving NPR 1,00,000. Priya Adhikari earned NPR 50,000 for her high-altitude rescue efforts, while Tenzing David Sherpa, Poornima Shrestha, and Prof Bishalnath Upreti were recognized for their respective contributions in climbing, research, and documenting the challenges facing the Himalayas.
Tourism Minister Khadak Raj Paudel spoke at the event, emphasizing the global importance of the Himalayas and the urgent need to mitigate the impacts of climate change, as "Everest doesn't belong to us alone; it is the property of the entire world." Earlier, a parade involving summiters, guides, and officials showcased the significance of protecting these majestic peaks.
