Sreelekha, now a BJP councillor, highlighted the need for dignified menstrual experiences, criticizing that the proposed leave could inadvertently reveal personal details. She suggested enhancing school facilities with sanitary products, clean toilets, and access to pain relief as a more effective approach.
Her comments follow the announcement of the initiative in Kerala's policy address for women-friendly measures. Despite the proposal's good intentions, Sreelekha believes strengthened facilities would serve students and staff better without encouraging absences due to menstruation.
