The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted bail to AAP legislator Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, facing a rape charge from last year. The decision required Pathanmajra to surrender his passport and make regular appearances at the police station, dismissing claims that his earlier absconding justified continued detention.
Pathanmajra, a first-term MLA from Sanour, was apprehended in Gwalior in March after avoiding capture since September of the previous year. Allegations include rape, cheating, and criminal intimidation by a Zirakpur woman, claiming that Pathanmajra misrepresented his marital status before their 2021 marriage.
The court, addressing these factors, noted the extended relationship timeline and questioned the complainant's knowledge of his marital status. The ruling emphasized the absence of evidence supporting alleged threats, deeming these insufficient to oppose bail.
