The Kerala state administration is preparing to involve the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the inquiry into the death of ADM Naveen Babu. This move comes as a response to increasing pressure from political circles and the late officer's family.
Congress lawmaker Pazhakulam Madhu announced that the Chief Minister had assured Babu's widow of initiating a CBI probe during a recent meeting. The family's dissatisfaction with the current police investigation, which has been mired in controversy, led to the request for a change in oversight.
Babu died under mysterious circumstances at his government residence in Kannur in October 2024, shortly after P P Divya accused him of corruption. Divya is presently facing charges of abetment to suicide. As the sole accused, she was subsequently demoted within the political party amid rising public scrutiny.
In light of the unfolding political drama, the Thalassery Additional Sessions Court ruled for a deeper examination of the case, ordering fresh probative steps, including retrieving call records tied to Divya. The state cabinet is expected to finalize the decision on the CBI inquiry in its upcoming meeting.
