The Delhi Police have detained Vinit Kumar, aged 29, in connection with the theft of copper cables and vandalizing security assets along the Airport Express Metro Line near Buddha Jayanti Park.

Authorities tracked Kumar down to Samalkha on May 30, relying on technical surveillance executed by the Indira Gandhi International Airport Metro police. This operation began after a May 23 inspection conducted by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the Central Industrial Security Force, and the Delhi Metro Police revealed significant damages to a LIDAR sensor system and the theft of a hooter along with approximately 120 meters of copper cable used for lighting.

Through scrutinizing footage from over 40 CCTV cameras and employing Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology, investigators pinned down a vehicle implicated in the crime, leading them to Kumar. During interrogation, Kumar allegedly confessed to engaging in repeated copper cable thefts alongside associates Sagar alias Kala and Hendrew Perera alias Bunty, with motives centered around financial benefit.

Vinit Kumar's capture also unraveled two previously unsolved cable theft incidents at the IGIA Metro police jurisdiction. Law enforcement officials are actively pursuing the arrest of his co-conspirators and seeking to return the pilfered items.
