Upma Chawdhry Takes Helm as First Female Chairperson of Metropolitan Stock Exchange

Upma Chawdhry, a distinguished former bureaucrat from the 1983 IAS batch of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the inaugural female chair of the Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India (MSE). This step marks a significant advancement for the institution.
Chawdhry previously served as the Public Interest Director at MSE and holds over three decades of experience in bureaucracy. She has also been the first woman Director at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. Her career includes representing India in various global platforms such as the WTO and UNICEF.
The Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India, a notable exchange acknowledged by the Securities and Exchange Board of India, gains profound leadership as it welcomes Chawdhry, who succeeded from her role as Secretary to the Government of India at her retirement in December 2020.
