A key US diplomat has underscored the necessity of global collaboration to bolster safety and support tourism in the Nepal Himalayas. Speaking at the Ascent Summit 2026, Sarah B Rogers, the US Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, advocated for integrating advanced technology in adventure and mountaineering sectors.
The event, organized by the US Embassy in partnership with Nepal's Tourism Board, was attended by significant figures such as Sumnima Udas, chair of the Nepal Parliament's International Relations Committee. Participants discussed leveraging American technological capabilities to enhance climber safety and promote local tourism, which also benefits US enterprises.
Nepal's vast Himalayan range, including the renowned Mt Everest, attracts thousands of adventurers annually. The American Embassy stated that the summit, gathering more than 1400 climbers and industry leaders, emphasized the benefits of combining Nepal's mountaineering expertise with American innovation.
