A disastrous building collapse in Delhi's bustling Saket area led to six deaths and left eight injured, as emergency responders tirelessly conduct search and rescue operations. The site, a hub for coaching centres, cafes, and offices, met with tragedy over 24 hours ago, leading to significant police and administrative actions.
Authorities have filed a First Information Report (FIR) citing culpable homicide among other charges and suspended two MCD engineers over alleged oversight failures. A dedicated team is probing whether construction violations, structural weaknesses, or unauthorized activities might have contributed to the collapse.
Delhi's Chief Minister visited the site, promising accountability and swift action against those responsible for unauthorized constructions. Meanwhile, a rescue operation employing heavy machinery continues amid fears of more victims possibly trapped under the debris, located at Westend Marg.
Residents of the area, known for its student community aiming for medical and engineering opportunities abroad, witnessed the building reduced to rubble, altering what was a normal evening into a scene of chaos and panic. The injured are recuperating at AIIMS following the incident.
