The National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL), New Delhi, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tricentenary (SGT) University, Gurugram, marking a significant step towards strengthening sports science education, anti-doping research and scientific training in India.
The agreement was signed on 3 June 2026 in the presence of senior officials from both institutions, reflecting a shared commitment to promoting ethical sports practices, scientific excellence and the development of skilled professionals in the healthcare and research sectors.
The partnership is expected to create new opportunities for students, researchers and faculty members while supporting India's broader mission of ensuring clean and drug-free sports.
Students to Benefit from Advanced Training Opportunities
Under the agreement, students and faculty members from SGT University will gain access to specialised training, internships, research projects and expert-led academic programmes.
The collaboration will provide exposure to modern laboratory techniques and advanced testing methodologies used in anti-doping science, forensic analysis and healthcare diagnostics.
Officials said the partnership will also facilitate knowledge-sharing initiatives and capacity-building programmes designed to strengthen scientific skills and practical expertise among participants.
By connecting academic learning with real-world laboratory experience, the initiative aims to better prepare students for careers in scientific research, healthcare and sports science.
Focus on Research and Scientific Excellence
NDTL Director Dr P. L. Sahu described the agreement as an important example of how collaboration between academic institutions and scientific organisations can help build a stronger research ecosystem.
He said the partnership would contribute to developing skilled professionals while advancing scientific research and laboratory excellence across the country.
According to Dr Sahu, NDTL's core mission has always been to uphold the integrity of sports in India. Through its collaboration with SGT University, the laboratory hopes to extend that mission into the academic sphere by helping train future scientists, researchers and healthcare professionals who will support clean sport initiatives.
The partnership is also expected to encourage collaborative research projects focused on anti-doping sciences, analytical testing and emerging technologies relevant to sports and healthcare.
Collaboration to Strengthen Future Workforce
SGT University Vice-Chancellor Dr Hemant Verma welcomed the agreement, describing it as an important milestone for the institution.
He said the partnership aligns with the university's emphasis on innovation, research-driven education and experiential learning. Students will have opportunities to work with advanced technologies and laboratory systems, helping improve their professional skills and employability.
Prof. Y. K. Gupta, Member (Eminent Scientist) of the Governing and General Body of NDTL, said the collaboration is expected to create a strong platform for academic engagement, faculty development programmes, student internships and joint research activities.
Both institutions believe the MoU will contribute to the growth of scientific knowledge, strengthen educational standards and support the development of a highly skilled healthcare and research workforce capable of addressing future challenges in sports science and public health.
