Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Thursday that his government remains firm in opposing U.S. tariffs, describing them as unjustified and harmful to the global trading framework.

The Trump administration has proposed imposing tariffs of up to 12.5% on goods imported from 60 countries, including Australia. This move stems from allegations that these countries have not sufficiently curtailed trade involving goods produced through forced labour, an accusation contested by U.S. trading partners.

"Australia has robust, comprehensive, and world-leading legislation addressing forced labour and modern slavery," Albanese stated during an interview with ABC Radio.
