High Stakes Diplomacy: Serbia's Vucic Faces Security Threats on Montenegro Visit
Serbia's security agency warns President Aleksandar Vucic against attending an EU-Balkan summit in Montenegro, citing threats linked to foreign secret services and a criminal clan. Despite tensions between the two countries, Vucic plans to attend, as Serbia's stricter border controls with Montenegro cause delays.
Serbia's national security agency has issued a stark warning to President Aleksandar Vucic, advising him not to attend a crucial summit on Friday in Montenegro with European Union and Balkan leaders, due to security threats.
In a Wednesday statement, the agency cited potential risks from foreign secret services and criminal elements. However, Serbia's Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic confirmed Vucic's decision to travel to the meeting, which will be attended by key European figures.
The warning follows an incident in which Montenegro refused entry to 87 Serbians, highlighting ongoing diplomatic tensions, partly due to Montenegro's relations with Kosovo and its alignment with EU policies against Russia.
