Global Election Meddling: The BlackCore Operation

Israeli firm BlackCore is under suspicion for interfering in local elections in France, New York City, and Scotland, as well as operating in Angola and Togo. French authorities believe BlackCore conducted online smear campaigns against candidates from the France Unbowed party ahead of elections earlier this year.

Global Election Meddling: The BlackCore Operation

Authorities suspect Israeli firm BlackCore of meddling in France's local elections, with ramifications extending to New York City and Scotland. According to Marc-Antoine Brillant, the head of France's disinformation detection service Viginum, BlackCore has been active in areas as diverse as Angola and Togo.

Last month, French officials suggested BlackCore was behind a smear campaign targeting candidates from the Left party, France Unbowed, during municipal elections in March. The campaign allegedly undermined three candidates using digital interference tactics.

Viginum's Brillant stated, 'This modus operandi was not limited to municipal elections in France.' Investigations reveal that these tactics have been employed in other countries and are anticipated during the 2025 municipal election in New York.
