Judge Blocks Controversial $1.8 Billion Anti-Weaponization Fund
A U.S. judge has indefinitely blocked a $1.8 billion 'anti-weaponization' fund, demanding assurance from the Trump administration that it will not proceed. The fund, tied to a settlement over Trump's lawsuit against the IRS, faced criticism as a biased allocation of taxpayer money.
In a significant ruling on Friday, a U.S. judge halted the establishment of a $1.8 billion fund meant for alleged victims of 'political targeting' by the Trump administration. The decision pauses the fund pending further judicial review.
U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema raised concerns about the fund's legitimacy, stressing it appeared to favor a small group of individuals accused of unacceptable conduct. This fund resulted from a settlement over President Trump's lawsuit against the IRS.
The administration has yet to formally end the fund despite statements indicating such. Brinkema gave the acting attorney general and Treasury secretary a week to declare, under oath, that the fund will not proceed, urging clarity over potential governmental abuse claims.
