Britain Sets 2027 Deadline for Russian Diesel and Jet Fuel Ban

The UK has announced a timeline to implement a full ban on diesel and jet fuel originating from Russia by 2027. The move aims to phase out a temporary licence allowing imports from third countries using Russian crude, amidst ongoing sanctions linked to the Iran war.

The British government announced on Friday a plan to cease the import of Russian diesel and jet fuel by 2027. This decision forms part of the broader strategy to implement sanctions while addressing supply chain disruptions caused by the ongoing Iran conflict.

The business and trade ministry confirmed that the temporary licence, allowing imports of diesel and jet fuel refined from Russian crude in third countries, will expire by January 1, 2027. The government emphasized its commitment to the existing sanctions, despite this phased approach.

The authorities have committed to regular reviews of the temporary licence every fortnight, with the intent to expedite its termination should conditions allow. This step underscores the nation's resolve in eliminating reliance on Russian oil products.
