The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah 2026, a nationwide campaign aimed at strengthening awareness and community action against drug abuse.
The ten-day observance, running from 17 to 26 June, is being held under the theme "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan" as part of India's activities marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The programme was inaugurated virtually by Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar, with participation from government departments, state and union territory administrations, educational institutions, civil society organisations and volunteers from across the country.
Minister Calls for Collective Action
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Kumar stressed that building a developed India requires healthy, informed and empowered citizens.
He highlighted the importance of community participation, youth involvement and coordinated efforts between different government departments in tackling substance abuse. The minister urged stakeholders at every level to contribute actively towards creating a drug-free society and strengthening the impact of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
The virtual launch drew participation from hundreds of organisations and individuals, reflecting growing support for the national movement against drug addiction.
New Digital Tools Introduced
During the inauguration, the ministry unveiled several initiatives designed to strengthen public participation and outreach efforts.
Among the key launches was the Personal Dashboard for Nasha Mukti Mitra, a digital platform that will allow volunteers to track their contributions, monitor activities and engage more effectively in awareness campaigns at the grassroots level.
A short film showcasing the achievements and ongoing work of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was also released. The film highlights efforts being undertaken across the country to reduce drug demand and promote healthier lifestyles.
Officials believe the new dashboard will encourage greater citizen involvement by providing volunteers with better tools to support awareness and prevention activities.
Nationwide Awareness Activities Planned
Over the next ten days, a variety of programmes will be organised across India to spread awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.
Activities will include pledge drives, awareness rallies, youth engagement events, competitions, webinars, cultural programmes, street plays and social media campaigns.
The campaign will also involve schools, colleges, Panchayati Raj Institutions, MY Bharat volunteers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and local community leaders.
The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment said the success of the initiative depends on continued collaboration between governments, educational institutions, community organisations and citizens.
Officials have encouraged people to participate in the campaign by taking the online pledge and registering as Nasha Mukti Mitras, helping advance the shared goal of a healthier and drug-free India.
