Draft Advocates Amendment Bill open for public feedback

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has invited public comments on the Draft Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2026, marking the start of a nationwide consultation process that will allow lawyers, legal experts and other stakeholders to help shape proposed changes to the country's legal framework. Prepared in consultation with the Bar Council of India, the draft legislation has been placed in the public domain to encourage wider participation before the Bill moves to the next stage of the legislative process.

The BCI uploaded the Draft Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2026 on its official website on 18 July 2026, making the proposed amendments available for review by advocates, legal institutions, professional bodies and members of the public. The draft can be accessed through the Bar Council of India's official website, where interested stakeholders can examine the proposed changes before submitting their feedback.

Comments invited until 31 July

The Bar Council has asked all stakeholders to submit their comments and suggestions by 31 July 2026 at 3:00 PM. Responses can be sent through the designated email addresses provided by the BCI and the Department concerned. The consultation is intended to gather views from across the legal community before the draft legislation is finalised.
