Union Minister of State for Water Resources Arjun Ram Meghwal Sunday stressed on the need to

encourage education of girls and empowering girl children. Participating in a run organised here to promote

sustainable community development among underprivileged sections and empowerment of girl children, he said both

boys and girls should be treated as equals in a family. Explaining various programmes undertaken by the Central

Government for the upliftment of the women, Meghwal referred to the slogan Beti Padao Beti Bachao' of Prime Minister

Narendra Modi, a release from the organisers said. The Avineon Run for Girl Child was organsied to

support Vaidehi Kishori Vikas Yojana, an initiative by Seva Bharathi, started with the aim of creating sustainable

community development in the slum areas, it said. As a part of this initiative, personality development

camps were organised at different locations catering to girls from the 115 slums where Seva Bharathi has been working for

the past several years, the release said.
