Sixteen people, including nine women, died after they consumed illicit alcohol in Assam’s Golaghat, a hospital doctor said on Friday.

While four persons were brought dead to the hospital last night, 12 others died today, Dileep Rajvanshi, a doctor at the government hospital, told ANI.

He said, “Initial diagnosis suggests alcohol poisoning.”

Post-mortem examination is yet to be done, he added.

In a hooch tragedy in September 2017, four people died and several others were injured in Assam's Tinsukia district. (ANI)
