A sharpshooter of notorious Naveen Khati gang was arrested in national capital's South West area, the police said on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Vimanshu alias Happy, is an active member of the Naveen Khati gang and was wanted in a murder case. He was carrying a bounty of Rs. 50,000 on his head.
"He was arrested after a brief exchange of fire. He fired one bullet, while the police shot two bullets in self-defense," a senior police official told ANI over the phone. A tip-off was received that the accused would be coming to Dabri-Gurugram area near Sector 23, Dwarka to allegedly kill the complainant and witness of a murder case in which he was involved.
A trap was laid at around 9:10 PM yesterday. When the accused was spotted in a White Creta car, it was blocked by Police Vehicles from both sides. Vimanshu's driver further accelerated the car and tried to run away. His attempt was curtailed by the cops. Upon being directed to surrender, he opened fire and a brief encounter took place following which he was apprehended.
During the interrogation, Vimanshu revealed that he was born in Gurugram and moved to Delhi to complete his education. Here, he met the gang members Abhishek alias Chiru Sagar, Deepak and some others. Last month, another member of the gang Ravi alias Chiru was arrested by the Special Cell while. One pistol along with live cartridges was recovered from his possession. (ANI)
