Urban Poverty "What works:What does not"

The issues discussed in the workshop on Urban poverty LGED were housing, watsan, education, health and employment.

On 18 May 2019, a day-long workshop on Urban Poverty issue "What works: What does not" has been held at the office premises of LGED. The workshop was facilitated by Hossian Zillur Rahman, Executive Director of PPRC. The invited grassroots women mainly stressed about their Housing, water, Electricity, Gas, sanitary latrine and Garbage problems. They also expressed that slum dwellers are always dominated by the local muscle men and slum leaders. Though they do not have any legal water, electricity and Gas meter, they have to pay excess money and excess house rent which is more than normal charge. Besides, they are bound to keep some illegal arms and drug items at their home, otherwise, they are not able to live at the slums. Ms Quazi Baby, Executive Director of PDAP said that it is very important to formulate specific policy on Urban Poor and Law & order situation of the local Government department should be more strengthen.
