The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to install CCTV cameras in state-run buses to ensure security of passengers, maintaining drivers' discipline and reduce accidents. In a statement on Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh State Roadways Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) managing director Rajshekhar said: "Decision has been taken to install as many as 1,400 CCTV cameras in 680 buses of three accident-prone routes -- Lucknow-Agra-Delhi Expressway, Lucknow-Bareilly-Delhi and Lucknow-Faizabad-Gorakhpur."
The CCTVs will be installed from September till March 2020, Rajshekhar said, adding that the cameras would help in checking accidents as well as false complaints, besides providing better security to the passengers. Rajshekhar said the UPSRTC was currently plying two buses each from the Avadh depot and the Kaiserbagh depot under a pilot project.
A committee of senior UPSRTC officers was earlier constituted to study the results of the pilot project. The committee found the pilot project very useful and recommended installation of CCTV cameras in other buses also in a phased manner. PTI NAV HMB
