With the arrest of two persons, Navi Mumbai Police in Maharashtra on Saturday claimed to have busted a racket where car owners were duped with a promise of high returns if they `rented out' their vehicles. As many as 63 cars of various brands including Scorpio, Innova and Ertiga were recovered from the arrested duo, said deputy commissioner of police Ashok Dudhe here.

Accused Satish Mhaskar (31) from Rasayani and Sharuk Baigh (25) from Panvel in Raigad district would allegedly promise high returns to car owners for renting out the cars. They would get around Rs 30,000 per month with their cars rented out for tourism and taxi services, the duo would allegedly tell owners.

After getting possession of the car, the duo would allegedly mortgage it to borrow money and then vanish, the DCP said. Navi Mumbai police have registered a case of cheating under IPC section 420 against them.

Mhaskar is in cable tv and real estate business while Baigh is in sale and purchase of used cars, police said..
