Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked Hindu seers and mahants of Ayodhya to adopt at least five to ten cows or bulls.

Speaking at a programme organized on the occasion of Ram Mandir movement leader Ramchandra Das Paramhans' 15th death anniversary at Digambar Akhara temple yesterday, Yogi said there are many abandoned cows in Ayodhya which are in pathetic condition.

He said Hindu leaders must help protect these animals.

"After the BJP government came to power in the state, illegal slaughterhouses have been banned. This has resulted in many cows and bulls roaming the roads and farms.

"To deal with this situation, the state government has issued funds for making cow shelters, but it is not the sole responsibility of the government. Public cooperation is necessary. So, I urge the Mahants of Ayodhya to adopt at least five cows or bulls and bear their expenses," the CM said.
