Govt. of Cameroon strengthens combat against clandestine driving

Cameroon government has recently declared the launch of a campaign against clandestine transportation across the nation. Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the current Minister of Transport made the announcement at a press conference took place recently.

The data shows that 22,314 material and physical accidents have taken place on the roads across Cameroon in the last eight years causing the death of 8,669 people, many of which are victims of 'clandos'.

According to Transport Minister, most of those vehicles were without number plates and driving registrations. Most of those vehicles and bikes run outside the authorised routes, as reported by Journal du Cameroun.

Hence, the government of Cameroon has contemplated to come up with the legal and institutional framework of the road transport sector alongside optimal monitoring of operations in the sector. Some of the actions will reportedly be taken under this framework include permanent conduct of various awareness information and control actions by joint and specialized teams on the main roads, drafting down texts and operational modalities for peri-urban transportation, wearing of identification badges by drivers and bikes among others., the website noted.

All the stakeholders to be involved to ensure the reduction in clandestine road accidents.
