Kerala: Baby died in womb after suffocation with umbilical cord

A tribal woman at Attappady here, one of the largest tribal settlements of Kerala, has delivered a stillborn baby through cesarean section, health department sources said Saturday. With this, the number of infant deaths reported at the hamlet has touched 13 this year, the sources said.

Of them, six children had died due to complications after choking while being breastfed, they said. The baby boy, weighing 3.20 kg, died in the womb following suffocation with the umbilical cord wound around his neck, they said, adding that the baby was brought out through a cesarean section last night at a private hospital, sources added.
