A Nigerian law enforcement agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has expressed concerns over the circulation of fake Dollar notes ahead of February 23, Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Ibrahim Magu, the Acting Chairman of Abuja-headquartered EFCC has issued a statement on February 21 stating that the agency is acting based on intelligence and the countrymen should be cautious in their transactions until the end of the elections. "The intelligence indicates that the dollar notes have features of genuineness, but forensic analysis by the commission reveals otherwise," the statement reads.

Initially, the Presidential and National Assembly elections and Governorship and State House of Assembly elections were supposed to take place on February 16 and March 2 respectively. The elections will take place on February 23 and March 9 respectively.
