Egyptian police kill 6 Hasm terrorists in north of Cairo, reveals Ministry

The Egyptian police killed six terrorists on Thursday, April 11 during a security raid in Qalioubiya province north of the capital Cairo, Egypt's Interior Ministry said in a statement.

"Members of Hasm terrorist group took a building in a farm in Qalioubiya as a hideout to use for carrying out their terrorist plot," said the police statement. It added that the police raided their hideout and killed six of them during a shootout, seizing guns and explosives in their possession.

The Egyptian police refer to Hasm group as the armed wing of the currently outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Morsi. Earlier on Thursday, the police announced killing 11 militants in a similar shootout in Arish city of North Sinai province northeastern the country. The police raids came a couple of days after a 15-year-old suicide bomber blew himself up at marketplace area in Sheikh Zuweid town of North Sinai, leaving seven dead including four policemen and 26 wounded, according to a former police statement.

Terror activities in Egypt have killed hundreds of policemen, army soldiers and civilians since the military toppled Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests against his one-year controversial rule and his Brotherhood group, Xinhua reported.

A Sinai-based group loyal to the Islamic State (IS) regional militant group claimed responsibility for most of the terror operations in Egypt over the past few years. Meanwhile, the Egyptian security forces killed hundreds of terrorists and arrested thousands of suspects during the country's war on terror declared following Morsi's ouster.
