President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame is expected to be in Egypt’s capital, Cairo on April 23 to meet his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. They are likely to discuss the situations in Libya and Sudan.

Titled Troika Summit, the meeting has attracted other African countries’ Presidents like Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti, Idriss Déby of Chad and Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is the current Chairman of the African Union.

The former Prime Minister of Chad and current Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki is also likely to attend the programme and brief the Presidents on the current situation in Sudan. The summit will have a detailed discussion on the most appropriate ways to bring stability in Sudan.

Since the removal of President Omar al-Bashir on April 11 this year and the subsequent establishment of a military governing council, civilian protestors have refused to leave the streets, demanding for the country to return to civilian rule.

The situation in Libya is also deteriorating. The eastern-based army, led by Khalifa Haftar, has launched a military campaign to take over western Libya, particularly Tripoli, where the United Nations-backed government is based. The Heads of State are likely to discuss the situation in Libya, where forces loyal to General Khalifa Haftar have recently launched an attack on the government in Tripoli, as reported by The New Times.
