The International Monetary Fund has revealed its plan on May 6 that it would send a team of experts to Tanzania with an intention to review a recent report on the country’s state of the economy.

The Director of the International Monetary Fund’s African Department, Abebe Aemro Selassie opined that the experts of International Monetary Fund would discuss with their experts in Tanzania on all economic reforms undertaken by the country.

A statement by the Directorate of Presidential Communication at State House in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam said Selassie vowed to dispatch the team of experts during talks with President John Magufuli.

According to the statement, Selassie praised Magufuli for implementing grand electricity projects aimed at reducing power tariffs. Philip Mpango, the Minister for Finance and Planning, assured Tanzanians that his ministry was well prepared in giving clarifications on the state of the economy report, Xinhua noted.

Palamagamba Kabudi, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, said there was no friction between Tanzania and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as observed by some quarters. On April 23, Mpango denied reports that the government has blocked publication of the IMF study on the country's state of the economy.

Mpango told the National Assembly in the capital Dodoma that the government and the International Monetary Fund were currently engaged in consultations to see how Tanzania's inputs could be accommodated in the final report. According to procedures, the government shared its inputs over the economic situation with an IMF team from November 26 to December 7 last year when the team visited the country, he told the House, as reported by Xinhua.
