UP Legislature passes Rs 6.90 lakh crore budget 2023-24
The budget proposed by the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government for the financial year 2023-24 was passed in both houses -- Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council -- of the Uttar Pradesh Legislature on Friday.
Both houses were adjourned sine die after the passage of the budget.
Parliamentary Affairs and Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna put forward a proposal before the Legislative Assembly to pass the UP Appropriation Bill 2023 (proposed budget) for the financial year 2023-24. Speaker Satish Mahana then announced it to have been passed after absolute majority in the House.
Khanna had presented a budget of over Rs 6.90 lakh crore for the financial year 2023-24 on February 22 in the House.
This time, new schemes worth over Rs 32,721 crore have been included in the budget After the passage of the Appropriation Bill in the Legislative Assembly, it was introduced in the Legislative Council, which was announced to be passed by the Chairman of the House, Kunwar Manvendra Singh, on the basis of the majority.
On February 22, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had termed the budget presented in the state assembly as the “foundation stone” of making the state a USD 1 trillion economy, saying his government would not impose any new burden on the public.
State's main opposition parties including the Samajwadi Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Congress had termed the budget as “directionless”.
The UP Legislature session had begun on February 20.
