Gurugram: Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Ram Govind Chowdhary, continues to be in a "very critical" condition after he suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday, a doctor at the Medanta hospital in Gurugram said on Monday.

The 65-year-old veteran Samajwadi Party (SP) leader suffered "sudden onset of breathlessness" on Sunday while in Jhansi, where he was campaigning for the Assembly polls.

The former Child Development Minister in the Akhilesh Yadav government was first treated at a medical facility in Jhansi and put on a ventilator and was later flown to Medanta late on Sunday.

He is being attended to by a team headed by cardiovascular and cardio-thoracic surgeon Naresh Trehan.

"Chowdhary's condition continues to be very critical," said A.K. Dubey, the medical superintendent of Medanta.
