The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lashed out at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar accusing them of playing politics with the killing of soldiers by the Boko Haram insurgents in Metele, Borno state. According to the APC, it was callous for anyone to ‘dance on the grave’ of the soldiers, who died in active national while defending the territorial integrity.

The PDP also called on the National Assembly to probe into the circumstances surrounding the attack. The party has also accused APC of diverting defense funds to politicking. PDP’s Kola Ologbondiyan has “blamed the killing of soldiers on alleged mishandling of funds meant for the procurement of weapons for the war against terror on the Federal Government under APC’s watch,” as reported by The Nation.

However, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, APC’s National Public Secretary countered in a statement saying the PDP got it wrong in its claim that funds meant military operation have been diverted to campaign ahead of next year’s elections. Issa-Onilu further claimed that the Nigerians have already witnessed PDP’s deceitful activities and would not be fooled by such antics.

According to him, the current President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari is highly committed to establishing lasting peace and security to all part of the nation. President has also ensured internally displaced persons (IDPs) were rehabilitated and reintegrated into the society.

“The allegations by the PDP that military funds have been diverted to finance the 2019 election campaigns of the APC is a sad reminder of the evil and retrogressive practices the PDP was notorious for during its defunct rule,” APC released in a statement.

“It is clear that the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have decided to dance on the graves of our valiant and patriotic soldiers by politicizing their deaths in the recent Boko Haram attack on the Nigerian Army Metele base,” APC’s statement added.
