The Spanish government will propose the creation of an independent regulator focused on energy, Energy Minister Teresa Ribera told a lower house committee on Tuesday.

"These are years of intense change that need the reinforcement of an independent and specialised regulator, and for this reason we will propose reinstating the National Energy Commission as dedicated entirely to this task," she said.

Spain's National Energy Commission was in charge of regulating energy systems between 1995 and 2013, but has since since been folded into the antitrust watchdog, the CNMC.
